NEWS

The Barnes Cross -Country Races were held on Sunday June 13th on a course around the playing fields at Kettle Park beside St.Clair and St. Kilda Beaches. The races were held in fine but very cold conditions with the ground providing good footing considering the volume of recent rain.
First home and fastest time among the registered Otago Masters competitors in the Open Men's 5K race was Geoff Anderson (Caversham) who finished in overall 4th place in a time of 18 min.24 secs Geoff was followed in 10th place by John Landreth (Caversham) in a time of 20.51

Masters competitors were well to the fore in the Open Women's 4K race. First across the line was Barbara Patrick (Hill City) in a time of 18.29 followed by Maria Sleeman (Caversham) 8th in 16.45 and Julie Wilson(Ariki) 11th in 16.04 Julies time placed her third among all age groups in the Open Women's race.

On Sunday June 20th the Geoff Capon Memorial 5K Beach Run and Walk was held at St.Clair Beach in perfect running conditions although the tide level was less than ideal. This race was the brainchild of former top Otago Masters competitor Geoff Capon who thought it a fun event to put on for people at usually the bleakest time of year. Numbers were light possibly due to the last Rugby Test at Carisbrook being held the previous day. First home to receive the Geoff Capon Memorial Trophy was Malcolm Hammond followed by Gene Sanderson,Peter Tutty and Mike Weddell. Dalise Sanderson was first among the Women competitors.
